About us
Cornelius Schrage was a blacksmith in Calvary in 1900. He expanded his small blacksmith shop to start working on gas engines, farm implements, and become a general repair and machine shop. His business would simply be known as Cornel Schrage in the early 1910's. GEHL implements were sold at Cornel Schrage and Schrage Brothers Inc. is recognized as the oldest and longest running GEHL dealer in the world.
In 1913 Cornelius started to sell Ford cars as a small satellite station, one of 12 satellite stations in the Holyland area. In 1915 Cornelius entered into an agreement with Ford to sell 50 Ford Touring cars throughout the year. 6 years later, 1921, Cornel Schrage was officially recognized as a Ford car dealership.
In the late 1920's Cornelius was ready to hand the business over to the second generation, his two sons Raymond and Albert. Along with new owners there also came a name change to the company. Cornel Schrage was now Albert Schrage Garage. Ray and Albert changed the tractor division from selling and servicing Case tractors to Ford Tractor in 1939. They continued to build and develop the Schrage Brothers name and Ford car and tractor brand through the Holyland for the next 50 years.
James Schrage and his brother, Neal, took over ownership of the business as the third generation in the 1970's and this is the time that they incorporated the business and changed the name from Albert Schrage Garage to Schrage Brothers Incorporated. . During this time Ford Tractor was bought out by New Holland Tractor and a new shop was being added on to the current building. James and Neal were owners until the mid 1990's when their sons; Dave and Mark, & Des and Robin, took over ownership duties as the fourth generation of Schrages.
Dave is the current president and manager of the business, Mark is the service writer for the automotive shop, Des is the service manager for the automotive shop and Robin is the salesman responsible for car and truck sales. Des and Robin’s brother, Glenn, is responsible for equipment sales for GEHL, Cub Cadet, and KIOTI.
Under the fourth generation of owners the building went under construction again to change the facade to its current appearance. In late 2004, Schrage Brothers took on the full lineup of Cub Cadet lawnmowers and snowblowers. We also discontinued handling New Holland Tractor and switched to KIOTI Tractor in 2011. In the first year of being a KIOTI dealer, Schrage Brothers achieved over one million dollars in retail sales.
Mark's son, Taylor-the fifth generation of Schrage- is the current parts manager and looks forward to carrying on the Schrage business into the sixth generation.
